Giorgio A. Presicce DVM, PhD


Following his Degree as Veterinary Surgeon, he got a PhD in Veterinary Obstetrics and Gynaecology in the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine in the University of Perugia and Naples “Federico II”, Italy. Served as Associate Professional Officer in the Food and Agricultural Organization (member of the United Nations) in the Regional Project “Promotion of Trypanotolerant Livestock in West and Central Africa”, The Gambia. He then joined the Department of Animal Science at Cornell University as Post Doc and Assistant Professor later. He has served in several academic and consultancy positions at Cornell University, the University of Connecticut (Storrs), Virginia Polytechnic (Blacksburg), and several Countries in Asia. Returned to Italy, he spent few years working for the National Institute of Health in the Department of Food and Veterinary Toxicology and then moved to his current position as Research Director for the Department of Development and Innovation in Agriculture in Rome, with the main goal to start and supervise a repro lab on research and farm implementation of reproductive technologies. In 2006 he has received by the Chinese Government the Friendship Award for the work and scientific collaboration with several research Institutes across the Country. His research focuses mainly on in vivo and in vitro embryo production in farm animals with main emphasis on large ruminants, namely cattle and buffaloes. Within the range of reproductive technologies, he has been instrumental in the development of Ovum Pick Up technology in adult and prepuberal cattle and buffaloes, as well as in the development of the use of sexed semen technology in the buffalo species. He has authored and co-authored more than 60 peer-reviewed papers on reproductive technologies.
